Replacing The High Pressure Power Steering Hose On An Alfa Brera/159 2.2 JTS

Replacing The High Pressure Power Steering Hose On An Alfa Brera/159 2.2 JTS

These guides serve as an introduction into various Alfa maintenance tasks, and are designed to give Alfa owners a better understanding of the work that is involved. These are not full Alfa Romeo workshop manuals, where you will find the official techniques, technical specs and important safety considerations, which we would recommend you study before attempting any of these tasks.

Unclip the x2 top clips securing the power steering hose. There’s also a clamp at the back which comes with the new hose so undo undo the 10mm bolt.

Unscrew the cap to the power steering reservoir.

Using a large syringe draw out the oil in the tank (this is only to prevent excess leakage when disconnecting the hose).

Undo the 17mm hose connector to the power steering pump.

We cable tie a latex glove over the end of the hose for convenience.

Undo the 6mm allen bolts, T27 (Torx) and Phillips screws to the undertray then remove the undertray.

From the front of the car, if you look underneath past the engine to the right side (passenger) you’ll see a white clamp on the hose secured by a 10mm bolt.

If you step past the sub frame and look back at the top left side (passenger) in front of the anti roll bar, you’ll be able to access this bolt.

Look to the right (drivers) side and undo the top 19mm banjo bolt to the steering rack. Push the end of the hose so that it’s in front of the steering column.

From the top of the engine bay, pass the neck of the hose through the small gap between the bulk head and the exhaust manifold. This will give you more room….

…to pull the hose out. Replace the new hose using new cooper seals for the banjo bolt.

The type of power steering oil for your vehicle is listed on a sticker on the under side of the engine bonnet.

Top up the steering reservoir and screw on the cap.

Start the engine and turn the steering wheel half a dozen times to release any trapped air in the system.

Check the oil level and top up if necessary.
