Replacing The Front Brake Disc And Pads On A Giulia Or Stelvio 2.9

These guides serve as an introduction into various Alfa maintenance tasks, and are designed to give Alfa owners a better understanding of the work that is involved. These are not full Alfa Romeo workshop manuals, where you will find the official techniques, technical specs and important safety considerations, which we would recommend you study before attempting any of these tasks.

Lift up the bonnet, located in the top right corner is the inspection panel to brake fluid reservoir.

Unscrew the cap to the brake fluid reservoir, this will relieve the pressure in the system when you prise back the brake calliper pistons.

Undo the front wheel bolts and remove the wheel.

Tap out the x2 brake calliper retaining pins and put them aside with the spring retainer.

Disconnect the plug to the brake pad wear indicator wire.

On the top stud of the brake hose bracket is an earth wire, use x2 10mm spanners to undo the locking nut and remove the earth wire. Unscrew the x2 10mm bracket studs.

Using long lever bars prise in the calliper pistons.

Undo the x2 T55 (Torx) calliper bolts.

As you slide the brake calliper off from the brake disc the pads should fall out, if not remove them. Suspend the brake calliper from the front leg with the aid of cable ties.

Undo the 5mm Allen locating screw.

Work the the edge of the brake disc with a hammer to loosen it from the hub.

Clean any corrosion on the hub.

Refit the calliper but just do up the mounting bolts hand tight while you file off any carbon build up on the brake calliper that may interfere with the fit of the brake pads.

Apply brake grease to the ends of the new brake pads.

Fit the new brake pads not forgetting the brake pads backing plate and spring retainer.

Unbolt the brake calliper again and fit the new brake disc with the locating screw. Cut the cable tie supporting the brake calliper and put everything back as it should.

Pump the brake pedal a few times to build up the pressure in the brake system. Check the level of the brake fluid in the reservoir and adjust as needed.
