Replacing The Boot Wiring Looms On An Alfa Giulietta.

Replacing The Boot Wiring Looms On An Alfa Giulietta.

These guides serve as an introduction into various Alfa maintenance tasks, and are designed to give Alfa owners a better understanding of the work that is involved. These are not full Alfa Romeo workshop manuals, where you will find the official techniques, technical specs and important safety considerations, which we would recommend you study before attempting any of these tasks.

Lift up the boot and unclip the x2 parcel shelf straps.

This is the boot covering the LEFT hand wiring loom.

Pull the boot out and the excess wiring.

Now pull the boot down until the individual wiring is exposed then start pulling at the wires to see if any broken ones come free.

The LEFT side loom has the washer pipe and controls:
– Rear washer
– Left side light cluster (small wires)
– Centre brake light (small wires)
– Boot release (medium size wire)
– Boot lock (medium size wire)
– Heated rear screen (large wire)

Carefully cut off the old rubber boot.

You can now inspect all the wires.

CONCENTRATE AT REPAIRING x1 WIRE AT A TIME. If only one wire is broken then trim off the broken ends.

Strip and twist both ends of the old wire.

Making sure you have the NEW wiring loom the correct way up…

….and matching the thickness of the wires, take the old upper wire and insert it into the top of the crimp connector of one of the new wires.

Crimp the connector then do the same for the bottom wire. Check the next wire and cut a section out, follow the same process until all the wires have been connected.

If more than x1 wire is broken, using a power probe power up the top broken wire…

….and see what comes on (in this case the centre brake light).

Strip the ends of the wires and twist together the top wire that you had just powered up with one of the broken lower wires. Now try to operate that function as you would do normally, so for our wire we pushed down on the brake pedal. If the light doesn’t work then try connecting the upper wire with a different lower broken one until you achieve that function. Now crimp the wires to the new wiring loom.

To connect the washer pipe cut the old one and place the o-ring supplied on the end.

Then hold the small clasp around the hose below the o-ring….

….as you push it into the new connector. Do the same for the other end.
On some replacement wiring looms the washer pipe is a straight forward push fit with heat shrink to reinforce the join.

The RIGHT side wiring loom has the aerial and controls:
– Right hand light cluster (small wires)
– Wiper motor (medium wire)
– Heated rear screen (large wire)
– Antenna (for models that have it built into the rear screen, if it’s not built in then leave it)
