Removing The Air Conditioning Condenser On An Alfa 4C

Removing The Air Conditioning Condenser On An Alfa 4C

These guides serve as an introduction into various Alfa maintenance tasks, and are designed to give Alfa owners a better understanding of the work that is involved. These are not full Alfa Romeo workshop manuals, where you will find the official techniques, technical specs and important safety considerations, which we would recommend you study before attempting any of these tasks.

Turn on the ignition, activate the windscreen wiper then stop the wiper so that it sits pointing to the top right hand corner of the windscreen.

Under the front wheel arch (on both sides of the vehicle) at the top is an access flap, remove the Phillips screw and screw grommet.

Pull down the flap and undo the 13mm nut on both sides. These secure the sides of the bonnet.

Along the scuttle there are x4 T30 screws.

Remove the weather seal from the base of the wiper arm.

Unclip the washer pipe under the right side of the bonnet.

With a person on either side of the vehicle, taking the bonnet by the edges wiggle it as you slightly lift to release the side mounting studs that you undid the 13mm nuts to.

Once free of the mounting points lift the bonnet towards then over the windscreen so that the wiper arm runs through the middle of the scuttle.

Remove the x2 caps to the air conditioning valves. You can check if the system is still holding gas and needs to be emptied by quickly pressing a valve in, if a high amount of pressured gas escapes the system will need to be drained.

Drain the system using the correct procedure.

Disconnect the air conditioner pressure switch.

Undo the 10mm nut to the hose clamp for the air conditioner pipes.

Also the Phillips screw.

On each side of the air conditioning condensers shroud behind the side support bracket is an 8mm bolt.

Lower down at the base of the shroud on each side is a cable tie that needs to be cut.

Separate the right facing air conditioning pipe by undoing the 5mm Allen key bolt.

Unclip the air conditioning condensers shroud by the top corners and remove the shroud.

Disconnect the two air conditioner pipes where they join to the condenser by undoing the 13mm nut.

The 5.5mm stud where the air conditioner pipes connects to needs to be removed from the old condenser and screwed into the new one.

After installing the new condenser, before fitting the condensers shroud replace the cut cable ties with new ones.

Fit and secure the shroud before reconnecting the two air conditioner pipes to the condenser.
