How To… remove the rear shocks on an Alfa SZ/RZ

These guides serve as an introduction into various Alfa maintenance tasks, and are designed to give Alfa owners a better understanding of the work that is involved. These are not full Alfa Romeo workshop manuals, where you will find the official techniques, technical specs and important safety considerations, which we would recommend you study before attempting any of these tasks.

Make sure the hydraulics lift button on the drivers console is in the ‘low’ position, then elevate the car. Open the rear boot, remove the spare wheel (I know it’s obvious but some people!!!) and undo the shock top mounting bolt.

Undo the hydraulic pipes connected to the shock absorbers and drain off any excess oil. Undo the shocks bottom locknut, then the mounting nut, using two spanners

Unbolt the ‘De-dion’ sub frame (x6 bolts)…

…then slide the rear axle back to gain access to the rear shocks for removal.
