How To… remove and refit brake pads for an Alfa SZ/RZ/75/Alfetta/Alfetta GTV/GTV6

These guides serve as an introduction into various Alfa maintenance tasks, and are designed to give Alfa owners a better understanding of the work that is involved. These are not full Alfa Romeo workshop manuals, where you will find the official techniques, technical specs and important safety considerations, which we would recommend you study before attempting any of these tasks.

A How To.. remove and refit brake pads for an Alfa SZ/RZ/75/Alfetta/Alfetta GTV/GTV6.

On the 75 / RZ / SZ, disconnect the brake wear warning sensor, before taking out the calliper retaining pins

Using a hammer and pin punch, knock out the lower retaining pin first, then remove the top pin

Prize back the brake pads and remove, then push the pistons back into the calliper (you can do this with the aid off a bar, which shouldn’t require much force).

Apply copper slip to top, bottom and back of brake pads, (where it makes contact with the calliper and piston). Take care not put any on the friction surfaces.

Insert new pads…

…making sure to copper slip both ends of the retaining pins

Hand tighten wheel nuts, lower front end onto ground then tighten nuts to the correct torque setting.
