Alfa CF1/2/3 Engine Identification

These guides serve as an introduction into various Alfa maintenance tasks, and are designed to give Alfa owners a better understanding of the work that is involved. These are not full Alfa Romeo workshop manuals, where you will find the official techniques, technical specs and important safety considerations, which we would recommend you study before attempting any of these tasks.

CF1, 1.6, 1.8 and 2.0 litre cars have an alloy rocker cover.

CF2, 1.6, 1.8 and 2.0 litre cars engines have a plastic rocker cover and only 1 catalyst with a throttle cable

CF3, 1.6, 1.8 and 2.0 litre cars engines have a plastic rocker cover and 3 catalysts with an electronic throttle

CF1 V6 2.5 or 3.0 litre cars have the engine ecu in the passenger foot well and a throttle cable.

CF2 V6 2.5 or 3.0 litre cars have the engine ecu in the passenger foot well and only I catalyst with an electronic throttle.

CF3 V6 2.5 or 3.0 litre cars have the engine ecu on the inlet manifold and 3 catalysts with an electronic throttle.
