Press the MENU button on the centre console to display the menu. Scroll to the bottom and choose ‘settings’ then on the next page choose ‘Driving assistance’.
‘Auto park brake’ should be on, click it so it shows ‘off’.
Next click on ‘Brake service’.
Click ‘yes’ to release parking brake.
‘Parking brake retracted’ will be displayed, there’s nothing more to do on the menu until you have replaced the brake parts.
Undo the rear wheel bolts and remove the wheel.
Disconnect the brake pad wear indicator wire then slide the connector off of the tab that it’s mounted to.
Using two lever bars prise apart the top and the bottom of the brake pads (this pushes in the caliper pistons).
Tap out the x2 brake pad retaining pins (these may be corroded in).
Undo the x2 10mm Allen key brake caliper bolts.
Remove the old brake pads.
Pop out the brake pads spring clip and rest the caliper to one side.
Undo the x2 T45 (Torx) bolts to the handbrake caliper.
Where the handbrake caliper mounts, the lip on the sliders corrodes into the slight recess on the hub carrier so you may Have to use a lever bar to loosen the caliper.
Move the caliper to one side.
Undo the the 5mm Allen key brake disc locating screw.
The brake disc sticks to the hub so using a copper mallet strike around the face of the disc to loosen the corrosion.
Clean the hub with a wire brush.
Loosely refit the brake caliper so you can clean the carbon off with a file where the the ends of the brake pads slide in.
Remove the brake caliper.
Give the spring clip a quick clean.
Place the new brake disc onto the hub and do up the 5mm locating screw.
Apply copper slip or an anti squeal paste (like VR 500) to the ends of the new brake pads.
Refit the spring clip and new brake pads into the brake caliper.
Bolt on the caliper and slide in the new brake pad retaining pins.
Reassemble the rest of the parts.
Go back to the menu display, to reset the parking brake press the brake pedal.
Activate the ‘Park Brake’ switch.
Pump the brake pedal (it should firm on decline) and test the brakes at a low speed.
